Critical highlights

  • When I made a complaint to customer service they took a week to respond and only responded after my second email!
  • When a consumer "cancels" an account, it is illegal and unethical to charge their credit card.
  • They used a different email address and when I caught the double billing and called them they refused to refund me.

“Excellent and legitimate adult dating site.”

I've had success with this site in the past. I've recent renewed my membership and continue to be impressed. I would highly recommend this. And also urge you to stay clear of fake sites such as Ashley Madison and Pure and Elite Singles.

“Dont use Match”

Worst site I have ever used Fake profiles/Scammers and a billing process you can only cancel is by cancelling your credit card. Google rates this site as No1, I will never believe a google search ever again. I paid 6 months membership and got reply from 10 scammers and about 15 fake people (younger that the age i set claiming to be older) obviously no checks and balances. Dont believe computer search engines for rating web sites look for reviews of people who have tried them.

Complete rip off. They bill 8 months on a six month membership and make it difficult to stop being billed. Search criteria is a total scam and forces you to view only people they want and are clearly not compatible. This site is designed to steal your money. Just terrible and should be shut down over the financial scams alone!

Paid for a six month subscription. Have met twenty women. Nearly all of them seemed nice and genuine. But ultimately they revealed themselves as scammers, con artists and liars. Sometimes Match exposes the fake profiles but for the most part I find out the hard way. Definitely not worth the subscription price!

Tip for consumers:
Don’t use this dating site!

Absolute waste of time! I'm an attractive mature woman and I was constantly getting messages from very young men or lived 100miles away or would message for a while then disappear and appear again weeks later or arrange a date and cancel that happened more than once! Also Match suggest messaging first tried that a few times no replies. If I wanted an active sex life I would of had no problems!
The likes I got were mostly the same faces over and over again that I'd already dismissed.
So I will remain single

Match is good in the respect of being a paid site (if you really want to make use of it) in that it does not have a glut of spammers and fakes. The search tools are good and the format where you can scroll through a large number of profiles is much better than most other sites. Zoosk is probably the worst when it comes to that and search criteria.

Cancelled my subscription prior to expiry but was charged for 6 months even though I could not log in or access my profile. Attempted to reach customer service numerous times unsuccessfully. Had to cancel my credit card as not to continue to be automatically billed. Will never join this site again nor do I recommend anyone else to join. Greedy, unethical company.

I left the over 50's French branch of this organisation last year and they are still stealing money from my account every month. They now want me to phone them, AT MY EXPENCE, to try and sort it out. Several emails to them and still no further forward. Once you profile has been set up the company has virtually no on going charges to maintain your account so it is all straight profit for them

I Joined Match, com for three months last winter. About 80% of the profiles I contacted were old, long- abandoned profiles. Only about 20% of profiles in my age group were real. After three months I realized that Match had nothing to offer me. I checked and double-checked with them by phone to make sure my credit card would not be charged for another three months. It was not. That's the only good thing I have to say about Match. My advice is not to waste your money.

As a recently single female I would not suggest this site. It is overwhelming the amount of messages you get that are completely sex based. I didn't get one offer for a date only hook up opportunities. I don't understand as I'm a legit dating opportunity. I felt like a total piece of meat when canceling my membership not like a lady. I received 50 messages within a couple of days but none were from people who wanted to date me. This was a crazy negative experience.

Website is buggy when logging in. Had to reset password multiple times just to log in. It is absolutely impossible to delete your account on either the app or the website. Map locations are way out of whack. Definitely not recommended. Its so bad I didn't even get to look at any other actual profiles. Glad I didn't give them any money. Use anything else other than this waste of time

Love this platform but every dating site has to do better in dealing with the spammers and scammers and not turn a blind eye to it... a man once told me he was an engineer and need $40,000 for an operation for his Mom, i contacted zetsus.com and they investigated the profile to find out that all his information were fake

Match is a terrible rip off and should be put out of business. Fake profiles, inappropriate matches that have nothing to do with what you requested, and in inability to block creeps. The only way I got my money back was to to threaten to report them to the above mentioned agencies AND to update my entire profile to a scathing advertisement of DO NOT JOIN MATCH summary with ridiculous photos and even more ridiculous "what I want" for a match.

Match.com when you do a search, can't even tell if person is a paying member. They can like you but can't reply, they you find out you can pay more so they can. Money making scam. Also can't tell how long sense last sign in. You can tell most recent, but once you get to about 10 deep it might have been a month ago, no way to tell

Recently I understood that I'm too lone person. I have no friends almost, just couple of such ones and anyway we meet each other not so often as I want to. So, I have decided to apply to specialized service where I could find a soulmate, a person who I can chat day n night and I will be interested in this conversation. I applied here because it seemed to me that it's quite a huge dating platform where all people can find theri soulmates. Fortunately, everything was okay I found a soulmate and now we're chating all day long. Soo, I guess we will meet. Thanks to this paltform.

Hello! Please be aware of this dating website Match. They are full of scammers and will only take your money. Thanks to my stars I was able to recover my funds back from them, they stole from me over 40,000 USD from my bitcoin wallet on Coinbase and won't return my messages and calls. I had to follow through with a recommendation from a close friend of mine about Datrek Recovery that was of great assistance to get my money back from these online fraudsters.

Tip for consumers:
Many thanks to Datrek Recovery Company who helped me pursue my claim and money back.
Please stay away from those on Match.com

Match is the worst of all. They dont check backgrounds, pictures, jobs, People dating there usually lied about job, status, education, pictures. Customer service is terrible too, they dont know anything, the confuse your emails, and its a waste of time to call them. I had to fight with my credit card because match customer service is worthless.

I was new to online dating and Match seemed to be the most reputable, it is not. It was the worst, most exhausting and even heartbreaking experiences ever. I felt there were Match bots, no one wants to meet (probably because they're not real). Fake profiles and scammers, catfish whatever... Its bad, stay away. I did have one date though we met in public and I knew he had an agenda... They all do

Outdated quirky site with less features and members than you get for FREE on most other sites! I paid $103.47 for 3 months access to "44 members" (February 2020) within 100 miles of my location in the GTA, what a rip off! As well, just try and cancel your membership, you'll discover they intentionally make it confusing and very difficult.

Did the six month option to give a good sample of who might be out there. Well during that period sent out contact notes to MANY. Had only two respond... Today as I'm writing was sent a note that someone was interested and I could look at it but had to renew my subscription. Sound like a scam? You be the judge. To top it off I put in the first line of my profile on the final day that this profile was no longer active. Humm. Did the sensor take that out perhaps? DaDaDa that's all folks

Good luck

Match.com is a major predator of the online dating business clients. They suck you in with their shiny advertisements and how they match so many clients a year but really I think that's BS because once you are a member then the fun begins.
So the two major factors with finding a match are 1) present people who are near to you in other words I indicate how many miles from my location I would like to meet people. 2) I fill out a very comprehensive profile about me and the type of person I would like to meet. OK ready? 95% of the people that show up in my search or at least an additional half an hour away than what I had requested. Also anybody in that list who might be near where I live had nothing in common with me. Our profiles just don't match! But match Thinks they do. So ultimately match.com is an incredible rip off and waste of time. Stay away at all costs!

Tip for consumers:
Stay away at all costs unless you want to waste your money and time for nothing

I recently got a membership to Match.com and it didn't take me long to notice how many of the profiles are no longer active or appear to have been abandoned a long time ago? I contacted Match.com customer service and asked why there were so many inactive profiles and if Match.com ever purges any of these profiles out of their system for non-use and they replied "we don't purge accounts that show inactivity". I believe this policy is in effect to give the impression Match.com has more users than they actually do? If Match.com were to purge inactive accounts new customers would quickly see how few people actively use the website and will end up leaving the website without purchasing a membership. This seems unethical and an unfair business practice that is solely used to manipulate future users into purchasing a membership. If you use Match.com keep in mind a majority of profiles that are going to show up as a "Match" are going to be inactive and/or abandoned user accounts.

Tip for consumers:
Match.com isn’t worth the membership and here are two reasons why. 1. The majority of profiles that "Match" you will be inactive and/or abandoned accounts so even if you “Match” them you will never get a “Match” back or response. 2. Match.com will push the paid ability to see "Secret Admirers" which are people that have "Matched" you but you either passed on them or they are outside of your search area. In either case is it worth money to see someone you passed on or out of your search area?

Tried to get into Match.com website and they have instituted a new, very aggravating way to annoy members by having them choose some numbers on dice that add up to 14 and when you choose it, it still won't let you into the site. Most annoying thing I've seen lately. I have cancelled my membership because of it.

Tip for consumers:
Not worth bothering with now that they have the annoying game you have to play in order to access their site.

If you don't want to get in the trap of going round and round in circles trying to cancel your subscription and stop Match from charging you - just don't get started with it! I came to the conclusion that most dating sites which try to sell you long-term membership ( like Match) only tend to be scam sites that prey on your money. They have only one task to make you purchase this membership and then it doesn't matter if you like their service or not. So they use fake photos, stolen identities, chatbots and a few hired chat operators for good measure just to entice you into paying.

Q&A (58)

Answer:

I was unable to get a refund but I dispute the transaction and got my money back that way. I said it was because they were not providing the service they claim to offer. If you can dispute with your bank just tell them you didn't authorize the transaction and the company refuses to refund you. Good luck.

No I would not trust it. There are scammers on there. They will tell you want you want to here. They are from another country. Look for key words such as widoer, contractor, travel, one child only. They will compliment you right off the bat about your smile. Not safe. Try another site.

Back in the 1980s, strip clubs were pulling all sorts of over charge and fake charge scams and forcing people tp pay. Here in Atlanta a majpr federal case against the GOLD CLUB brought all that to light and alot of changes were made in the industry... I BRING THAT UP BECAUSE... these social sites seem to be attempting the same types of scams and are getting away with it. By U.S. fedeal standars ALL THESE SITES FALL UNDER THE RACKETEERING STATUTE. Unfortunately there is NO enforcement of these laws at this time. Your best option is to dispute the entire charge with your credit card. They may not want to do this because they are seeing so much of it. BE FIRM AND INSIST IT IS A MATTER OF CREDIT FRAUD. Also be sure to indicate that you are filling a consumer notice with the Federal Trade Commision (they have online forms for this to keep a numbers count on how many people are affected by these sorts of things. www.FTC.org). If you have been a good card holder, you shouldnt have any issues except for 1: ALL THESE SITES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR REBILLING/DRAFTING YOUR CREDIT ACCOUNT. You may want to file a COMPROMISED CREDIT CARD CLAIM AT THE TIME OF THE DISPUTE and have your card issuer SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT CARD WITH A NEW CARD NUMBER.

You will have a hard time getting your money back Terri. The first time I was with them years ago, I forgot the auto renewal and tried to get my money back and they fought me tooth and nail. This time I tried both Ourtime and Match and both experiences were not good though Ourtime was a bit better. I agree with some of the answers here that Match baits you toward the end of your subscription with possible contacts, but since I cannot proof that I have to add that disclaimer. Everything you have run into with your experience I have had with mine.

Answer:

You likely signed up for auto-renewal, which Match.com doesn't explicitly tell you out-right that it will auto-renew. You will not likely get a refund back for the month they charged you. However, go to your account's settings and cancel the feature ASAP. You will still have access for the month in question, but at least you will have stopped future withdrawals.

The first thing you need to understand (if you haven't already discovered it on match) is that none of your letters will be read unless the recipient is a FULLY PAID member. Even though you have paid to be a member you are still not able to contact the other person. There is a option available to you but it's pretty much extortion on the part of Match. You can pay an additional monthly fee where all of your mail is delivered and they can read and reply back to you. Apart from that I can't really give you any other answers other than don't renew with this site.

Answer:

It is because there are not any real people on match.com. Most of the profiles are fakes, or they are people who may have once been on the site and now their profiles are used as bait to get you to sign up and pay, thinking there are actual matches that could be made. Also a lot of the profiles are people who have not actually signed up and paid so they could not even get back to you if they wanted (unless they too pay for the privilege of sending an email reply). Do not sign up! This is an unethical site that does a bait and switch to get money out of you and others and does not delivery on any promises. Most of the profiles are cons trying to get something from you. This site should be shut down!

I feel the same way Teresa, i have been on the site for 1 year now and cancelled my subscription, but was told it won't officially cancel until May because i waited to late after my initial sign up day, so i got stuck with another year. I am a handsome guy with a lot to offer, but for some reason never really got emails as i expected, i started to think the people profiles were fake or the women i was interested in didn't know a good man if his profiled slapped them in the face, just sayN. 41, recently divorced for little over a year, highly educated, working in my profession, make close to six figures, single, don't cheat, great personality, smart, don't play, and real down to earth... but i guess no one believed it or didn't like my handsome picks... IDK. Confused!
